I just quote other people…

The other day my wife noticed, “You tend to repeat other people’s stories way more than you share your own.”

I said, “Why create C+ content when I could curate A+ content?”

In Ecclesiastes it talks about how “there’s nothing new under the sun.”

Even thousands of years ago, Solomon wrote that all the ideas had been thought of and all of the deeds had been done.

I actually tend to agree.

Nobody’s ideas are 100% original.

In fact, the best social media pros are professional thieves.

Obviously you can’t steal content, copy, and images.

But ideas are ripe for the taking.

When we see posts, we look for the spark/idea/nugget/essence that makes it work.

Then we wrap our brand/context/experience around that idea and make something of our own.

Last week I shared about how the social team at Benzinga created a reel that drove 80k new followers.

The actual edit was all original.

But the idea was about how Jerome Powell’s every work wreaks havoc on the market.

That idea isn’t proprietary. It’s all about how we make that idea fun and easy to consume.

Hey you’re still here!
