This week, I’m doing a break down on one of my favorite new creators.

He’s gone from 0 to over 1M followers in darn near no time flat.

Here’s how he did it and how you can implement his tactics on the accounts that you run…

SOUTHERN GRANDPA’S GROWTH HACKS

tldr… Justin Stagner, aka The Southern Grandpa, has seen insane growth because….

  • He knows his audience

  • He knows the platform

  • He knows the balance between “tried and true” and “test and learn”

Let’s dive in. (But first… you should check out his profile to get an idea of what his content looks like.)

He knows his audience:

When I first saw this dude pop up on my profile, my response was, “Holy crap I didn’t know other people said this stuff.” I always thought it was just my dad!

Justin has found a group of people who grew up with southern father-figures and creates content that’s not just relatable, but nostalgic.

Growing up, here are some of the things I heard my dad say…

“Boy, you better knock that off. I’ll beat the piss right out of you.”

“Hey now… I brought you into this world, I’ll take you out. Make another one just like you. It don’t make no difference to me.”

“God almighty! Colder than a witch’s tit in a brass bra out there!”

He was usually kidding… I think…

Seeing Justin spewing the same nonsense immediately made me laugh and made me fall in love with his content.

He knows the platform:

This one is a little more nuanced.

It’s not just that Justin does skits and skits do good on TikTok ergo Justin does good on TikTok.

He’s got the rhythm, the cadence, the format honed in to crush on TikTok.

He’s repurposing on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube and seeing impressive results, but nowhere near as effective as TikTok.

He’s clearly a student of the platform and is executing with precision.

If you’re looking to step into the comedy niche on TikTok, his account is a masterclass on how to format your content.

He knows the balance between “tried and true” and “test and learn”:

Justin blew up with his first edition of Southern Grandpa Sayings. So what did he do?

He made 40 more videos just like it.

Sure there are variations, but for the most part, he’s sticking to his bread and butter.

How you land a follower is how you keep a follower.

However, he’s not afraid to introduce new characters and new bits.

Some of them flop. Some of them explode.
