Look at this freaking guy…

When I was in high school, my friend Ryan taught me this line…

“I know you already know this, but…”

That line is a superpower.

It makes the person you’re talking to drop their defenses and listen to what you’re about to say.

The only logical response to whatever you tell them is, “Oh yeah I totally knew that.”

narrator: they did not know that

It has a million use cases.

Have a suitor who you don’t see a future with?

“Hey I know you already know this, but I’m not looking for anything serious right now.”

Feel like the boss is about to throw something on your plate?

“Hey I know you already know this, but I am up to my ears in tasks right now. I don’t think I can take on any new assignments.”

So…

I know you already know this, but the hook is the most powerful tool as a social media pro.

We all know this in theory, but how many of us create content like we truly believed it.

Here’s a guy who lives and breathes incredible hooks….

A while back I saw one of his videos started with “Look at this freaking guy right here…”

It cracked me up.

I texted him telling him how much I loved the hook and he told me that almost all of his megaviral videos used some variation of this hook.

Check out these examples.

So often in short form video, people don’t really follow people.

They follow topics.

If I asked you “Who is your favorite creator on TikTok?” you might say Chris Koerner, but it’s far more likely that you’d say, “Oh that one dude who talks through crazy business ideas. He’s always saying ‘look at this freaking guy’”

Chris has brilliantly trained his audience that every time they hear “Look at this freaking…” they know to expect a 10/10 masterclass in business and entreprenuership.

If Chris posted garbage content, it wouldn’t last very long.

But since he always delivers and follows through, the audience gets hooked.

That first sentence is a psychological trigger that preps the viewer for a massive reward.

Should you start all of your videos with “Look at this freaking guy right here”?

Probably not.

But you should think about how your hook is priming your audience for the content you’re about to deliver.

Ok…

This is 100% random and coincidental.

I scheduled this email yesterday (Monday) at 5 p.m.

At 5:56 p.m. I got a message from….

Chris Koerner 🤯

He told me he’s taking on a couple of consulting clients.

Basically helping people/businesses/brands replicate his process of:

Growing way more, way high quality followers, way faster.

And then…

How do you convert that to the ever-elusive trackable ROI.

Lmk if you want an intro!
