First… some context.

Exchange City was (is? idk if it's still around) this little city that 5th graders went to on a field trip to learn how to be productive members of society.

Each kid gets a job, a salary, etc.

EVERYONE who grew up in the 90s - 2000's in the Kansas City metro went through this.

Now…

Guy's is a potato chip company that's based out of Kansas City.

I think they had contracts with all the school districts because Guy’s is all I ate at Ridgeview Elementary. (Go Roadrunners)

This is a perfect example of how a brand account can step outside their industry (food in this case) to resonate with their target audience.

As far as I know, Guy's isn't trying to sell potato chips to New Yorkers.

They want to create content that hits home with folks in KC.

Mission accomplished.

In fact, they did such a good job that the mayor of Kansas City hopped in on the trend.

Takeaway:

Your goal isn't to sell product.

Your goal isn't massive reach.

Your goal is make your ideal customer feel understood.
