psssst.... there's a better way

and other Wednesday musings

Welcome to Social Studies.

Today:

  • there’s a better way

  • fun announcement

  • extra stuff

There’s a better way…

If you’re new here, I send a weekly(ish) newsletter to help social media pros get better.

There’s also have a private, paid community for social media media pros.

We came up with a really clever name for it… the Social Studies Community. 😎

Last week we did this thing where 5 of us hopped on a Zoom call and talked about what we’re working on and share different perspectives and bounce around ideas.

One of our members was talking about LinkedIn company page growth and Jason Mitchell dropped some serious wisdom.

He asked questions about time spent and ROI and made the astute observation that some of the company’s best posts were reposted from employees who initially shared it from their personal account.

Jason said, “We know that platforms like LinkedIn prioritize content from people. So... what if you empowered people to publish content?

You could shift some of the time you’re spending on the company page towards teaching your employees how to build their own brand.

Less time. Less work. More ROI.

At my day job (Benzinga) one of our core values is “We find a better way.”

Everybody (but especially social media managers) get caught up in the details that it’s easy to forget to zoom out and see if there’s a better way.

What’s your biggest struggle right now?

TikTok views never break 200 views?

LinkedIn company page stagnant?

I don’t know what the answer is, but odds are… there’s a better way.

Hope that’s helpful!

side note…

This conversation above came at a good time…

I’ve spent the last several weeks preparing a cohort-based course on Maven.

Advocate Academy helps companies accelerate exposure (and profits) by equipping employees to build an influential personal brand.

It’s for people that want to use LinkedIn to build an audience and for companies that want to reap the benefits of a high ROI marketing and recruitment channel.

We’re covering how to launch and sustain this type of initiative and how to create a playbook for building and converting an audience.

Growing a personal brand from 0 to 40k followers has been a massive creative outlet for me and it’s made me better at my job and provided a side income as well.

Because of my personal LinkedIn, the companies I’ve worked for have had their names on stages at industry conferences and appeared on 17 million LinkedIn feeds.

That is the power of turning team members into influencers.
