The traditional "social media manager" role is dying.
Not because social media is going anywhere, but because what we actually do has evolved so far beyond posting pictures and writing captions that the title itself feels... outdated?
Gone, but not forgotten.
When most of us started in this space, we were basically digital bulletin board managers.
Post content, respond to comments, maybe run a contest if we were feeling fancy.
That was then. This is now.
In 2025, social media managers:
Build and nurture entire digital ecosystems
Architect community experiences across multiple platforms
Analyze behavioral data to predict trends before they happen
Manage AI partnerships while maintaining human authenticity
Navigate complex privacy regulations and attribution models
Create revenue-driving community strategies
“Social media manager" doesn’t capture any of that.
